The Summer Palace

The Summer Palace is located in the northwestern suburb of Beijing city,It began to build in the 15th year of the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing dynasty(1750),and it was burnt down inb 1860 by the allied forces ofBritain and France.Cixi,the mother of the emperor,diverted the funds for the navy to rebuild it,and renamed it the summer palace in 1888,It was destroyed in 1900 by the allied forces of the "Eight Countriesmand rebuilt again in 1903

The Summer palace mainly consists of longevity Hill andKunming lake,the area of which is 4,350 mu in which the water area is about 3/4.there are over 3,000 ancient buildings in different shape.

The famous Pavilion of the Fragrances of Buddha is the centre of the park.facing the lake and lying onthe hill,which is magnificent and grand.These remarkable arts of building park fully demonstrated the great intelligence and inexhaustible creative power of labouring people of "China.
